Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys®: Bangkok Motorbike Festival
In a country where motorcycles are the predominant form of transportation, the Bangkok Motorbike Festival receives pride of place in CentralWorld shopping center. As the third largest shopping complex in the world, CentralWorld’s forecourt covers a massive 8,000 square meters. Thailand residents buy two million motorcycles every year, nearly 4x as many as Americans and every January they flock to this festival to view some of the world’s best motorcycles.
Honda Motorcycles: A Moving Force in Thailand
Thailand is one of the foremost bike manufacturers in the world, producing motorcycles for many of the best known brand names. Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda all manufacture a large percentage of their export motorcycles in Thailand. Even Great Britain and Italy are producing world-class motorcycles in Thailand.
Honda’s R&D Center for Asia is located on the outskirts of Bangkok. So, it’s no wonder then that Honda accounts for more than two-thirds of the nation’s annual two-wheeler sales and that a large number of its motorcycles for export markets around the world are produced there.
Unlike much of the world, where large capacity motorcycles are popular, small capacity motorcycles are the preference in all Asian countries. Many new major models from the smaller categories make their debuts at the Bangkok Motorcycle Festival each January.
The tiny fuel-injected MSX125, which hit the market only a month ago, had several custom versions on display. Manufactured in Thailand, it is a small bike with a big bike feel. It has a 125cc fuel-injected 4-stroke engine and four-speed gear box. It features a sturdy steel frame, inverted front forks, monoshock rear suspension and hydraulic brakes and 12-inch wheels which sport wide, low profile tires.
Triumph at the Motorcycle Festival
Triumph, the famous British name, founded by a German and made famous by Americans such as James Dean and Marlon Brando, now has a large portion of its wares manufactured in Thailand. Triumph provided the only genuine global debut of the festival when it unveiled the 2013 Triumph Tiger Sport.
The 2013 Tiger Sport features a single-sided swing-arm, fully revised suspension, new Triumph Dynamic Luggage System option and 10 extra horsepower for a total of 125.
Triumph spared no expense to show Thailand how important it is to the future of their company.
