Florida’s Biketoberfest Leads to a Rash of Motorcycle Accidents and One Fatality; Motorcycle Accident Lawyers Florida
Biketoberfest is an annual motorcycle festival that takes place in Daytona Beach, Florida. This past year the event concluded on Sunday, October 18th and hosted thousands of motorcyclists, shows, concerts, and events. Yet in spite of the fun festivities, Biketoberfest can also be a dangerous weekend for Florida bikers, and this year was unfortunately not an exception.
According to the TCPalm, the festival got off to a horrific start when a pregnant woman and three other motorcyclists were involved in a serious Florida motorcycle accident Friday night. Joshua Baldes of Daytona Beach was driving a Jeep Cherokee on George Engram BLVD when he turned left in front of the three motorcycles. One of the motorcycles was carrying a pregnant passenger, who died at the scene. The other three motorcyclists suffered injuries and were transported to Halifax Medical Center for treatment. Baldes fled the scene of the accident, but was later apprehended and charged with the Florida hit and run motorcycle accident. Authorities say that Baldes was intoxicated at the time of the arrest and was already on probation.
This tragic Florida motorcycling accident was just one of the three motorcycle accidents that occurred over the Biketoberfest weekend. A second Florida motorcycle crash occurred on Tomoka Farms Road under the Interstate 4 overpass in Daytona Beach on Saturday night. The biker was unconscious when police arrived and was transported to a local hospital with severe head injuries.
The final Biketoberfest motorcycle accident occurred on Sunday evening. According to Florida Today, a Melbourne Beach resident was on his way home from Biketoberfest when he was involved in a single motorcycle accident in Mims. Although his injuries are not thought to be life threatening at this time, he did sustain serious injuries requiring immediate hospitalization.
