Russ Brown Motorcycle Lawyers: In 2008, over 400,000 bikers attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, 513, 008 in 2009 and 601,324 in 2010 —and this year will be no exception. Imagine—the sights and sounds of over 600,000 motorcycles rumbling through the area. Unfortunately, this massive attendance can make for quite a few accidents and traffic delays. While fatalities at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally have declined to merely 3, there are many accidents and fatalities that occur in other states as motorcyclists attempt to make the long trek north for the rally.
Last year alone, at least 9 motorcycle deaths were tied to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and according to JS Online, bikers on their way to and from the rally were killed in motorcycle crashes. Bikers from Montana, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota all lost their lives, including an 83 year-old biker from Minnesota who died on U.S. Highway 16A. Sadly, many of these Sturgis related motorcycle crashes could have been prevented.
In addition to fatal motorcycle crashes, there are numerous, more minor motorcycle accidents that cause a variety of injuries. These injuries include broken bones, road rash, soft tissue injuries, head and neck injuries, and more. Surprisingly, even minor injuries can lead to a lifetime of pain and disability, and if not treated quickly, those injuries can easily become chronic.
