Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys®: 2012 Harley Davidson 72 motorcycle review.

As I wrap up my bike reviews for 2012, I sit here thinking about various makes and models of motorcycles I test rode this year and I have to say the 2012 Harley Davidson Seventy–Two was just plain fun.
Slim, sweet and easy to ride, the Red Candy metal flake paint, ten-inch mini-apes, cool white walls and the classic peanut tank channeled the retro, back in the day early chopper era when bikes were colorful, chromed and stripped down to essentials.
Rubber mounted and powered with an air-cooled 1,200cc Evolution v-twin that produces 73 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm, mated to a 5-speed transmission. The mill is rated with a combined fuel economy figure of 48 mpg and holds 2.1 gallons of fuel in the “peanut tank” which will give you around 75-100 miles of estimated range. Yes you’ll be filling up and it’s clear the Seventy-Two isn’t meant for touring long distances.
Said to tip the scales at 545 dry weight, the narrow profile and light feel of the front end makes this model feel light, tight and easy to toss around. The rake angle is modest at 30.1 degrees and steering effort is light. The narrow proportions, Dunlop white side wall 21-inch (MH90-21) front and 16-inch (150/80B16) rear tires, the 10-inch bars with 2-inch risers combined with the forward controls,  minimal bobbed rear fender and the side-mount license plate do well in creating this models old school chopper silhouette. In addition to the chrome laced wheels, chrome is featured throughout the chassis and powertrain (pipes, round air cleaner, frontend, gauge mount, rear shocks, fender strut covers, primary cover, horn cover, forward controls, and turn signals).
The photos do not do the Hard Candy Big Red Flake paint justice. The six layer process and big metal flakes really pops and well worth the extra $700 shine.
Priced at $10,499 in Big Blue Pearl or Black Denim and $11,199 in Big Red Flake (seen here) this rides cool retro combo is cost you a few grand more than the standard Sporty. With the time-honored styling cues, this factory chopper adds up to good lookin Sportster. For more information:
