Wayne “Pappy” Pierce Motorcycle Collection Up for Auction
The Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction at Bally’s Hotel & Casino will kick off January 8th and 9th, and will feature a significant private collection of motorcycles: the 50-plus motorcycle collection from the extensive Wayne Pierce family museum. These are all offered at no reserve.
Some of the one-of-a-kind motorcycles that will be offered include the earliest known Harley-Davidson Sportster, which is a model that is believed to have been produced in 1957. There will also be a restored 1933 Harley-Davidson VLE police bike that was cast in the movie the Untouchables. Motorcycle collectors can also purchase the 1926 Harley-Davidson JD with unique canoe style sidecar or a 1971 Harley Sportster XLH, which has “boat tail” bodywork that was only available for 2 years.
Motorcycles lovers of all kinds will be interested in Pierce’s authentic and unrestored 1947 Knucklehead wearing period aftermarket accessories. There will also be a fully outfitted 1942 WLA, nicknamed the Liberator, that comes all-inclusive with gun scabbard and rifle, shovel and stocked first aid kit. The WLA is conservatively estimated to sell for $16,000-$20,000.
Wayne “Pappy” Pierce was a champion motorcycle racer who was recruited by Harley-Davidson to open a dealership in DeKalb, Illinois in 1957. His dedication to old Harleys and to restoring them made his collection one of the finest in the world. The Pierce Museum is now home to over 120 incredible motorcycle models, almost all in running condition and draws visitors from around the world.
Pappy was a charter member of the American Motorcycle Association and a member of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. His passion for motorcycling lasted until his death on May 28, 2008.
