MS Won’t Stop Mike Pawelczak – Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys®
Thirty years ago, Mike Pawelczak was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a central nervous system disease. A neurologist told him that he had likely made his last motorcycle ride and that the disease would prevent him from enjoying his two-wheeled hobby. Pawelczak had a different future in mind and promptly switched neurologists. Now, he still revs up his Harley-Davidson and rides. Just last weekend he made a 170 mile journey from West Long Branch to Cape May to provide support for the National MS Society’s Annual Coast the Coast Ride for bicyclists. During the Coast to Coast Ride, he and 15 other motorcyclists scouted ahead of the cyclists to ensure safety at busy intersections.
Since he was initially diagnosed with multiple sclerosis he has become a trustee and organizer for the National MS Society. He organizes and oversees new programs for MS patients, including an annual scholarship contest for gifted high school students.
According to the National MS Society, there are over 400,000 individuals in the United States who suffer from this debilitating and progressive neurological disease. The symptoms are variable and unpredictable and can range from fatigue to paralysis. Luckily, Pawelczak’s symptoms aren’t severe enough to keep him off of his beloved Harley-Davidson. As long as he can ride, he can continue to do what he loves—and help raise awareness for MS along the way.
