Rolling Thunder® Charities, Inc. was created in 2007 and is now one of the country’s leading non-profit organizations designed to assist veterans and active duty military personnel and their families. The organization, which is an extension of Rolling Thunder®, Inc., is one of the most effective non-profit Veteran’s charities in the country, giving 95% of all donations received directly to veterans in need. One of its primary goals is to address the needs of those who “the system” has somehow failed. Rolling Thunder® Charities, Inc. seeks private donations to enrich the quality of life for those who have served our country, by providing financial support to our troops, disabled veterans and their families when they are in need of help and by providing financial support to a host of veteran’s advocacy groups.
The ninety six chartered chapters around the country make monthly visits to local VA hospitals, nursing homes and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Wards. Through the chapters, Rolling Thunder® Inc. members regularly donate food and other items to local veteran’s hospitals, and give clothing to homeless veterans and VA patients each year.
Chapter members give, tirelessly of themselves, building wheelchair ramps and making other home improvements and repairs for disabled veterans and families who have lost a loved one in the line of duty.
Homeless veterans are given a chance to get off the streets at weekend “stand-downs”. Veterans are given clothing, nutritious meals, a comfortable place to sleep and access to social services at these events.
To carry on the mission of Rolling Thunder® Inc., the chapters donate POW/MIA flags to local civic groups and schools and organize flag-raising ceremonies to increase public awareness of the POW/MIA issue. Member veterans, as representatives of Rolling Thunder® Inc., speak at schools, scout meetings and other youth programs, educating students, and their parents, about patriotism and the human factor of war.
Through Rolling Thunder® Inc. endeavors, legislation has been passed to help protect veterans. The Bring Them Home Alive Act of 2000 and the Persian Gulf War POW/MIA Accountability Act, enacted in 2002 had a direct influence on freeing live American POWs during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
From the first Ride for Freedom in 1987 to a hugely successful and influential group of charity functions,  Rolling Thunder® Inc. stands true to their mantra to “never forget” our American service members.
