Wrapping up Sturgis – Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys®

Weekends are for relaxing, right? Not if you were at the closing weekend of the 2013 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Even though the rally was winding down there was still a ton of things to do in Sturgis. For those bikers who were feeling nostalgic or patriotic, The Rolling Thunder Memorial Ride to the Black Hills National Cemetery kicked off at noon with a memorial service at the cemetery upon arrival. Hopefully, everyone who was there got to pay a visit to Freedom Field to take in the field of flags and memorials celebrating U.S. troops from all wars.

A great concert (or two or three) was a fitting end to an action-packed day, and there was something to satisfy every musical taste. Fuel, Filter and Alien Ant Farm rocked the Sturgis Buffalo Chip on Saturday night. The honky-tonk sounds of J. P. Harris closed down the Wrench Bar at Easyriders Saloon and the all-acoustic Beatles cover band Glass Onion performed at the Knuckle Saloon.

On Sunday, bikers began packing up their gear to head home after what was arguably the best Sturgis Motorcycle Rally of all time. Not only were there awesome motorcycle events, concerts, music, and vendors, but motorcyclists themselves were also a bit safer.

According to preliminary statistics released, while there were more motorcycle accidents this year, there were fewer fatalities. The Highway Patrol’s final count tallied 69 accidents that caused injuries, but only 6 fatalities in the Sturgis and Rapid City areas. This was down from the 9 fatalities that occurred last year.

While the number of drunk driving arrests stayed roughly the same as last year, there were a few more misdemeanor and felony drug arrests. Some of these increases in accidents and arrests, however, can be attributed to the increase in bikers that turned out for this year’s rally.

If you missed this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, don’t fret—next year’s rally is already being planned and is scheduled for August 4th – August 10th, 2014 and the best time to plan is now!
